Stephanie Richardson is an artist and writer based in Edinburgh and Yorkshire.
Her practice is framed by the engineering of curious or uneasy new evolutions of beings and events through the construction of narratives in which the indexical root becomes disfigured and stained with falsehoods. Sculpture, drawing, collage and performance are interlaced with imagery drawn from equestrianism, natural science and silent film in order to compose anxious geographies.
Her current practice is engaged with the construction of objects that have the air of esoteric props, forms that resist classification into a register of functional domestic articles.
She has a fondness for lifting objects out of childhood and reimagining them within an adult topography and her work encloses a predilection for ascribing lascivious, fetishistic and unsettling qualities to inanimate items by drawing upon the rich legacies and associations that are carried by particular objects and materials.
